iron ore dryer
An iron ore dryer is a type of rotary drum dryer, consisting of a rotary drum dryer, feeding system, discharge system, conveyor, fan, heat source device, dust removal system, and electrical control cabinet. It is a specialized dryer for iron ore, titanium ore, and other metal ores. The iron ore dryer utilizes the principle of hot air circulation to dry iron ore with moisture, bringing it to the required moisture content. It can quickly achieve the drying of iron ore. The drying process can reduce the moisture content of iron ore, which is initially 10%–15%, to a moisture content of 10%–15%, making it easier for transportation and further smelting processing.
The iron ore dryer can be applied in various industries. As a professional manufacturer of iron ore dryers, we can dry iron ores such as magnetite, hematite, limonite, siderite, and ilmenite. The iron ore dryer removes excess moisture from the ore using thermal methods to meet the requirements of downstream processes (such as crushing, screening, grinding, magnetic separation, flotation, etc.) in terms of ore particle size and moisture content.

Why Choose a Dryer for Iron Ore?
In the iron ore production process, primary and secondary crushing, followed by ball milling, flotation, or magnetic separation, are typically required.
High moisture content in iron ore can cause adhesion and blockage. Moist iron ore tends to stick to the inner walls of crushers, screens, silos, and conveyors, leading to equipment blockage, reduced production efficiency, and even shutdowns for cleaning.
Furthermore, during the ball milling process, wet iron ore dampens the impact force of steel balls, reducing grinding efficiency, increasing energy consumption, and raising costs for customers.
In the magnetic separation process, wet iron ore particles tend to agglomerate, affecting the efficiency of magnetic separation, and severely reducing ore recovery rates and concentrate grade.
Therefore, using a dryer to reduce the moisture content of iron ore ensures the stability and efficiency of the entire ore processing production line.
Types of Iron Ore Dryers
Based on the working principle and type, iron ore dryers can be divided into rotary drum dryers, belt dryers, fluidized bed dryers, and paddle dryers.
We are a manufacturer of iron ore dryers and offer rotary drum dryers, which are the classic type of iron ore dryers.
Rotary Drum Dryer Principle: Wet ore is fed into the drum at the high end, where it is exposed to hot gas (hot air) entering from the low end. As the drum slowly rotates, the ore is lifted and dropped by internal lifting plates, forming a uniform material curtain. This allows for efficient heat exchange with the hot air, evaporating the moisture from the ore. The dried ore is then discharged from the low end of the drum. Rotary drum dryers are suitable for both iron ore powder and iron ore particles.
Iron Ore Dryer Installation Site

Where Should Iron Ore Dryers Be Installed?
Based on the iron ore production process, iron ore dryers should be installed at the following key locations:
After Ore Washing: Ore washing introduces significant moisture, and drying is necessary before subsequent crushing.
After Ore Beneficiation: Iron concentrate (especially after flotation or magnetic separation) has high moisture content, requiring drying before pelletizing, sintering, or to meet dry transportation and storage requirements.
Tailings Treatment: Drying tailings can facilitate their comprehensive use (e.g., brick production) or reduce the burden on tailings ponds.
Typical Position for Iron Ore Dryer Installation
Raw Ore → Crushing → Washing → (Optional: Drying) → Grinding → Beneficiation (Magnetic Separation/Flotation) → Concentration → Filtration → Concentrate Drying → Concentrate Storage/Transport.
We can also customize installation positions based on client requirements.
Features of Our Iron Ore Dryer
As a leading global dryer manufacturer with over 20 years of experience, our iron ore dryers come with the following key features:
Diverse Heat Source Options: Clients can choose from various heat sources depending on the site conditions. Our dryers can use coal, natural gas, electricity, fuel oil, steam, or even industrial waste heat.
High Efficiency: We adopt a three-layer rotary drum structure (or a single drum with internal lifting plates), increasing the contact area and residence time between the hot air and material, leading to high thermal efficiency and strong evaporation intensity. The design is optimized for large-scale industrial production, capable of continuous processing of large volumes of wet ore, with a daily processing capacity of several hundred to over a thousand tons per unit.
High-Quality End Product: Our dryers can rapidly reduce the moisture content of iron concentrate or iron ore powder (e.g., initial moisture content >15%) to a safe level (e.g., <10% or even lower).
Fully Automated Operation: The entire process is automated with PLC control, allowing real-time monitoring and automatic adjustment of temperature, rotation speed, feed rate, and airflow. This ensures that the drying process is always in the optimal state, resulting in uniform and stable moisture content, with minimal manual intervention.
Longer Service Life: We design our iron ore dryers to exceed industry standards by 20%. Key components, such as the drum and internal lifting plates, are made of heat-resistant and wear-resistant high manganese steel or superior alloy steel, effectively resisting the high wear and tear of iron ore. We also incorporate anti-corrosion designs.
Easy Maintenance: The equipment features a modular design with inspection doors and manholes, allowing for easy access to the interior for inspection, cleaning, and replacement of components like lifting plates.
